We’ve all had a scratch or a cut that seems to take a very long time to heal. But there are wounds that, for a variety of reasons, won’t heal on their own. You or a loved one may have an infection or other condition—poor nutrition, blood flow issues, diabetes, for example—that hinders it from getting better on its own. The Mary Greeley Medical Center Wound Healing Clinic can help.

Dawson Brekke came to the Mary Greeley Wound Healing Clinic in December 2022 for a frostbite injury. His ability to continue bowling on the Ballard High School team was at risk, but hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) allowed him a swift recovery.

Compassionate Care for Hard-to-Heal Wounds

Since opening in January 2009, the Wound Healing Clinic at Mary Greeley Medical Center has seen thousands of patients. Its primary purpose is to diagnose and treat wounds that haven’t healed over the course of four weeks.

Getting a persistent wound to heal takes an interdisciplinary mix of physicians, nurses, and health professionals. Team members at the Wound Healing Clinic include specially trained experts who are able to diagnose a variety of wounds. They include:

Conditions We Treat

We treat a wide range of chronic, nonhealing wounds and conditions including:

diabetic ulcers
pressure ulcers
arterial ulcers
venous ulcer
trauma injuries
cellulitis
any wound that has not healed in one month

Patients can refer themselves to the Wound Healing Clinic or can be referred by their physician. We accept most insurance plans, including Medicare.

Advanced Treatment Options

The approach to healing persistent wounds relies on a variety of advanced treatment methods, including:

advanced wound dressings
vacuum-assisted closure, which involves a special dressing and application of pressure
bioengineered tissue
debridement (tissue removal)
wraps to decrease lower leg swelling
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)

In addition, the Wound Healing Clinic team at Mary Greeley Medical Center offers education so that patients, loved ones, and caregivers are able to help promote faster, more permanent healing.
