Antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to substances that the body perceives to be threatening. This presents itself by digestive symptoms or dermatitis herpetiformis, an itchy, blistering skin condition. A screening test called anti-tissue transglutaminase commonly used when an individual is in a risk group for celiac disease can detect this condition.
