Senior Driver Safety Program
You’re not the same driver you were when you were at 16 … or 35 … or 65. As we age, our driving abilities change—and our physical state can influence our behind-the-wheel state, too. Older drivers have challenges that programs like the AARP Driver Safety Program can help address.
Senior Driver Safety Program Highlights
Every year, there are new driving regulations and rules, as well as advances in car technology and safety. Everyone, no matter their age, needs to stay current on their driving skills.
That’s why twice a year, Mary Greeley Medical Center offers the AARP Driver Safety Program. Created specifically for drivers age 50 and older, the program reviews:
- current road rules, including safety belts, air bags, antilock brakes, and other new technology
- defensive driving techniques
- common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time
- how to minimize blind spots, change lanes, make turns, and maintain good following distance behind a car
- medications and driving
- driving distractions and evaluation of skills and abilities
