Four Generations Deliver Two Meaningful Gifts

AMES, IA – Mary Greeley Medical Center was the recent recipient of two heartfelt gifts from one family spanning four generations. Shelly Mathre coordinated gifts of new stuffed animals and movies for Pediatrics and a donation to the William R. Bliss Cancer Center in memory of her mother-in-law Kathy Kempen. Mathre, her mother Ann Smith, daughter Jessica Christiansen and granddaughter Josie Christiansen delivered the gifts, making some of our youngest patients very happy.

Members of the Mathre family live in and around the Ames community and utilize the services of Mary Greeley Medical Center. “Once you have a family member who is really sick, you want to help others feel better,” said Mathre. “We wanted to contribute locally and this was a perfect place to make a difference.”

The stuffed animals will be given to pediatric patients during their stay to take home and the movies will be shared throughout the year with patients and their families. Gifts to the foundation for the Bliss Cancer Center support the programs and services of the center including the Cancer Navigator Program, Cancer Nutrition Program and Courage in Motion Program. Gifts also help fund patient and staff education opportunities.
