Scholarships

Mary Greeley Medical Center has several scholarship opportunities for area high school seniors pursuing a healthcare career, nursing students, and Mary Greeley Medical Center employees. There is one application for high school applicants and one for all others.

Applications will be available starting February 21, 2024. The deadline for fully completed scholarship applications is 11:59 pm on March 31, 2024.

Scholarship Information

  • Students must be enrolled in an accredited program leading to licensure or degree.
  • Selection is made without regard to gender, ethnicity or religion.
  • Scholarship awardees will be chosen by a Scholarship Selection committee.
  • Scholarships support coursework taken between August 2024 and June 2025.
  • Scholarship disbursement will be paid directly to educational institution in July 2024. No payments will be made directly to scholarship recipients.
  • To be eligible for Mary Greeley employee scholarships:
    • employee must be in good standing, not in Level 2 Corrective Action
    • awardee must be an employee of Mary Greeley at the time of distribution
  • You will need the following information to complete your application:

    • verification of enrollment (or prior to disbursement if not currently available)

For High School Seniors

Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship

Anna May Allan was a registered nurse who worked at Mary Greeley both as a staff and private duty nurse. Her devotion to the nursing profession and interest in assisting students with their education led her to establish this scholarship.

This scholarship is for a graduating Iowa high school senior or a graduate from an Iowa high school and is pursuing the study of nursing. Must be enrolled full-time with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. ($2,500)

J. Ben Buck Scholarship

The Buck family established this scholarship to recognize J. Ben Buck’s contributions to his chosen profession as a dental technologist, a pre-hospital emergency care provider, and member of the research team that developed a respirator which has improved the health of many infants.

This scholarship is for a graduating Iowa high school senior or a graduate from an Iowa high school pursuing a degree in a healthcare-related career. Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. ($1,200)

Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

For more than 30 years, Mary Ann Carr served as the Mary Greeley Auxiliary Gift Shop manager. This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Mary Ann’s service and leadership.

This scholarship supports graduating high school students pursuing a career in healthcare. To qualify, students must graduate from one of the following schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Children or dependents of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer will be considered regardless of high school location.

Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA, be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field and demonstrate financial need. ($1,250)

Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

For more than 30 years, Linda Dasher served as the volunteer buyer for the Mary Greeley Auxiliary Gift Shop. This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Linda’s service and leadership.

This scholarship supports graduating high school students pursuing a career in healthcare. To qualify, students must graduate from one of the following schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship

This scholarship is for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee in the Birthways Unit who is enrolled in a course of study in obstetrics with a minimum 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. ($1,250)

Mary Ann and James R. Black Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mary Ann and Jim Black to recognize the excellence of Mary Greeley’s Mobile Intensive Care Services and Emergency Services.

This scholarship is for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee pursuing a degree in direct patient care with strong preference given to applicants working in emergency services or pursuing a degree in connection to emergency services. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating leadership and community involvement. ($1,250)

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the 45-year nursing career of Phyllis Crouse, RN, BSN, MPH and to support the mission of nursing.

This scholarship is for a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher. Must be enrolled full or part-time into an advanced degree program at an accredited college. Preference given to applicants demonstrating leadership and community involvement. ($1,500)

Opal Fagle Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor Opal Fagle’s legacy in nursing.

This scholarship is for a student pursuing a career in direct patient care, including but not limited to nursing. Preference will be given to Mary Greeley Medical Center employees demonstrating financial need, and to those who possess the charismatic character that will touch the lives of the people they come in contact with. ($1,500)

J. Elaine Hieber Scholarship

As the retired senior associate athletic director at Iowa State University who has 30 years of active involvement with Special Olympics, Elaine recognizes and values the support and involvement Mary Greeley Medical Center provides both entities. This gift is in appreciation of all Mary Greeley does for Ames and the surrounding communities.

This scholarship is for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee enrolled in an accredited program leading to a career in direct patient care including, but not limited to nursing. Must have a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA in their most recent level of education. ($1,500)

Nursing Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mary Greeley nurses to support Mary Greeley Medical Center nurses pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. ($1,500)

Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

Kim Russel served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mary Greely for more than 12 years. Through her vision and innovation, the medical center grew to be the medical center of choice providing specialized care with a personal touch to Story County and surrounding counties. This scholarship was established to recognize her leadership.

This scholarship is for Mary Greeley Medical Center employees pursuing a master’s or doctoral level degree. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. ($1,500)

Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship

Helen Sidles was a registered nurse and 37-year employee of Mary Greeley Medical Center. It was because of her devotion to the nursing profession and interest in assisting students with their education that her family established this scholarship in her memory.

This scholarship is for nursing students entering their final year of nursing school with a minimum 2.7 GPA in their most recent level of education. ($1,500)
